the great vestibule
Build in the popular Palladian style, it shows off the wealth and influence of the family living here. White marble sculptures were brought in from Italy during a grand tour and displayed how well traveled they were. A large golden chandelier was created for this room to light up the stunning space. The north wall has 5 windows to get as much light as possible. Opposite you find a gallery which is connected to the central part of the grand staircase. This gives visitors a beautiful view into the vestibule but also lets in natural light for the staircase.
Black and white marble tiles make a beautiful pattern and compliments the stone walls and decor. Filled with various antiques, you immediately feel you are in someone’s home. But not just any someone.





The grand staircase
When you look up you see the heavens carried by many columns that emphasizes the height of this masterpiece. Finished in 1659, it represents the Queen in battle together with her army on one side and victory on the other side. Above are angels watching over the land and its people. This was to commemorate the victorious Queen. The grand staircase leads in two directions one to the east wing and one to the west wing. The west wing is the official part of the castle. Here you find vast state rooms for various entertainment. And east stairs lead to the private part of the castle where the family lives. Both stairs have arched ceilings and beautiful Cristal chandeliers lighting up this majestic space. At the end on both sides, you find sculptures of dukes of Blockshire. In 1715 they were elevated from an earldom to dukedom by the king. On the first floor is a long gallery from one side of the stairs to the other side. In the center you can enjoy a look into the grand vestibule.



The great hall
Recreated after the original hall, this amazing space covers the whole west tower ground floor. Large windows let in the light and very high beamed ceilings give the space an airy feeling despite be build of sandstone and wood. The many busts represent great minds of the day with royal portrait on the walls.
In the middle there is a very large red carpet, specially made for the hall. The room is being prepared for a banquet. You can see the level of detail and luxury.





The Victorian gallery
